Acids vs. Materials

Some materials can handle acids like a champ, while others… not so much…

    Aluminium + Acid = Trouble! ⚠️

🛑 Reaction: Strong acids like hydrochloric or sulfuric acid eat through aluminium quickly, causing bubbling and corrosion.

🔥 Fun Fact: Aluminium forms a protective oxide layer, but acids strip it away, leaving it vulnerable!

🚫 Not recommended for acidic environments!

Stainless Steel – Tough but Not Invincible!

🔩 Reaction: Resistant to many acids, but…

💀 Weakness: Hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sulfuric acid can pit and corrode it over time!

💡 Pro Tip: Choose higher-grade stainless steel (316) for better acid resistance!

Brass – Say Goodbye to Strength!

⚙️ Reaction: Strong acids cause dezincification (zinc gets leached out, leaving weak, spongy copper behind!).

😱 Result: Metal weakens, turning dull and brittle.

🚧 Not a great choice for acidic conditions!

    Polypropylene – Surprisingly Resistant!

🛡️ Reaction: Doesn’t react with most acids. Resistant to corrosion!

⏳ Lifespan: Holds up well, but extreme temperatures can reduce durability.

✅ A solid choice for acid handling!

    Viton – The Acid-Proof Rubber?

🔄 Reaction: Handles many strong acids well! Resistant to chemicals and heat.

⚠️ Weakness: Some highly concentrated acids (like fuming sulfuric acid) can degrade it over time.

💪 Great for seals & gaskets in aggressive environments!

FEP – The Ultimate Acid Warrior!

🦸‍♂️ Reaction: Virtually inert to almost all acids.

🔥 Bonus: Can handle extreme temperatures!

💎 Best Choice for: Ultra-corrosive environments.
